My mom and wife are great cooks! I remember growing up and eating left-overs when mom would make a really BIG meal ( I have 7 brothers so didn't always have left-overs).
Anyway, we would pull the left-overs out on Sunday night and have a virtual smorgasbord of rice, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, sweet potato pie, fruit salad, chicken & stuffing, and some stuff that I no longer eat. LOL!
My wife can pull it together too! But did you know that God wants you eating left-overs.
We are starting our 90-day tithe challenge on Sunday, April 2, 2017 because God wants to give you an abundance with something left over.
Maybe right now you are saying, PD, I hear you but there isn't much left over after I pay my bills.
But here is the key:
1 - Obey God FIRST through the tithe(remember another name for tithe is first fruits)
2 - Pay yourself (savings)
3 - Develop and stick to a spending plan
4 - Enjoy the left-overs!
Here is a New Testament promise, for us all, from God's word:
2 Corinthians chapter 9 verse 8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. (New Living Translation)
In 2 Kings chapter 4. The widow had a great debt.
The prophet Elisha asked her a simple question. What do you have in the house?
She replied, I have a little bit of oil in a jar.
Isn't that just like God? Many times God will ask us what we are bringing to the party.
He will ask us to inventory what he has already given to us. God desires to partner with us to bless us. In a partnership, both parties bring something to the agreement. God being the Senior partner brings the miraculous portion - what we cannot do on our own.
God asked Moses, "What is in your hand (Exodus 4:2). He used Moses' staff to miraculously deliver his people out of Egypt. Again God uses what Moses already possessed to bring about a great deliverance.
The story of the widow ends with God miraculously providing for her and her two sons through the small bit that she had. Elisha said to her, sell the oil, pay your debts, and live off of what is
It was another widow woman at a town called Zarephath who had just a little bit of meal and oil in a barrel. The economy was in a depression! She was going to fix it for her son and die and then both of them were going to die.
Then God showed up through the Prophet Elijah and challenged her to fix a meal for him first. She too experienced miraculous provision and lived off the left-overs. (1 Kings 17:7-16)
It is a pattern with God that he blesses us with left-overs. Jesus fed the multitude with 5 loaves and two fish, where did they come from? A little boys picnic lunch.
Remember what Jesus told the disciples after they had fed everyone?
John 6:12-13 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
God wants to bless you with some left-overs.
Partner with God through the tithe and watch what he does.
Malachi 3:10-11 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do," says the LORD Almighty, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Let me prove it to you!
(New Living Translation of the Bible)
