In our journey of faith, we often encounter a profound question that challenges the very core of our beliefs: Is Jesus truly the Lord of our lives? This question goes beyond mere verbal affirmation and delves into the depths of our hearts, actions, and daily decisions.

The concept of Jesus as Lord is not just a theological construct but a life-altering reality that demands our attention. Romans 10:9-10 states, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This scripture highlights a crucial point - it's not about confessing Jesus as Savior, but as Lord.

This distinction is vital. Many of us readily accept Jesus as our Savior, grateful for His sacrifice and the promise of eternal life. However, embracing Him as Lord is a different matter entirely. It requires surrender, submission, and a willingness to let go of our own desires and plans.

Our human nature rebels against authority. We don't like being told what to do, even by God. This resistance is deeply rooted in our sinful nature, tracing back to Adam and Eve's decision to determine right and wrong for themselves. Yet, true salvation and transformation come when we surrender our will to Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in this process. 1 Corinthians 12:3 reminds us that "no one can say, 'Jesus is Lord,' except by the Holy Spirit." It's not about mouthing words but about a genuine, Spirit-enabled submission to Christ's authority. This submission impacts every aspect of our lives - our speech, finances, calendar, body, and even our bedroom.

Jesus Himself addressed this issue in Matthew 7:21-23, warning that not everyone who calls Him "Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven. He emphasizes that only those who do the will of the Father will enter. This sobering truth challenges us to examine our lives and ensure that our actions align with our professed faith.

The story of Nicodemus in John 3:1-8 provides a powerful illustration of this concept. Nicodemus, a religious leader and scholar, approached Jesus seeking understanding. Despite his knowledge and adherence to religious laws, he sensed something was missing. Jesus' response was simple yet profound: "You must be born again."

This spiritual rebirth is not about human effort or religious observance. It's a supernatural transformation that comes from above. John 1:12-13 beautifully expresses this truth: "To all who believed in him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God."

Being born again is more than praying a formulaic prayer or repeating certain words. It's about surrendering our will to Christ and allowing Him to become the Lord of every aspect of our lives. This surrender leads to a radical transformation where we begin to hate what we once loved and love what we once hated.

Consider how this lordship impacts various areas of our lives:

1. Our speech: When Jesus is Lord, we can't say everything our sinful nature wants to say. Our words become subject to His authority.

2. Our finances: Our bank accounts reflect our priorities. If Jesus is truly Lord, it will be evident in how we manage and use our resources.

3. Our time: Our calendars reveal what's truly important to us. Surrendering to Christ's lordship means allowing Him to direct our schedules and priorities.

4. Our bodies: Recognizing Jesus as Lord means treating our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit, affecting our choices in food, drink, and lifestyle.

5. Our relationships: Christ's lordship extends to our bedrooms and impacts how we conduct ourselves in all relationships.

This total surrender might seem daunting, but it's the pathway to true freedom and fulfillment. When we allow Jesus to be Lord, we experience a love so powerful that it reshapes our desires and transforms our very being.

It's important to note that this transformation isn't instantaneous or perfect. We still struggle with our sinful nature, but the trajectory of our lives changes dramatically. We find ourselves drawn to righteousness, desiring to please God and live according to His will.

For those who feel something is missing in their spiritual lives, examining the lordship issue could be the key. Are you truly born again? Have you surrendered every area of your life to Christ's authority? This isn't about following a set of rules or maintaining a religious façade. It's about a genuine, life-altering relationship with the living God.

The call to surrender to Christ's lordship is like a divine invitation. Imagine God saying, "I've got you surrounded by my love and grace. It's time to surrender. Come out with your hands up." This surrender isn't about defeat; it's about victory. It's about experiencing the fullness of life that Christ offers.

As we reflect on this message, let's challenge ourselves to go beyond surface-level Christianity. Let's examine our hearts, our actions, and our priorities. Are we allowing Jesus to be Lord of all, or are we holding back certain areas of our lives?

Remember, Jesus can't be our Savior if He's not our Lord. The good news is that when we truly surrender to His lordship, we experience a love and power that transforms us from the inside out. We find ourselves loving what we used to hate and hating what we used to love.

Let this be a call to authentic, transformative faith. May we have the courage to surrender fully to Christ's lordship, allowing Him to reign in every aspect of our lives. In doing so, we'll discover the true essence of what it means to be born again and to live as children of God.
